Our Story
My Doctor’s Recipe was born from a deeply personal and moving story.
When our co-founder Alan Mackenzie lost his wife Alison to cancer in April 2016, he was devastated. Alison's oncology doctor at the time, Dr. Jon Krell, encouraged Alan to find a new purpose to navigate through the grief.
Alan was determined to improve the patient experience for others going through a similar thing. When Alison was unwell, she was offered fortified shakes like Ensure and Fortisip but she found them unpalatable and they only made her feel worse.
In the wake of losing Alison, Alan partnered with Dr. Jon Krell and published chef Alan Rosenthal to create My Doctor's Recipe – a range of delicious products made with real, natural ingredients and enriched with the vitamins and minerals needed to aid recovery and promote overall wellness. Inspired by Alison's ability to only eat ice creams and ice lollies during her illness, they focused on launching Nutri-Ice Cream.
In January 2023 they met with Sally Newall, founder of Simply Ice Cream. Sally joined the My Doctors Recipe team at the end of 2023 and developed an ice cream made with just a handful of natural ingredients and fortified with a unique vitamin and mineral blend known as DJK+. This revolutionary formula launched in private hospitals in Summer 2023.
Our journey has just begun, with many more product innovations in the pipeline. Together, we’re dedicated to enhancing the nutritional care of patients.
